Introduction to Cancer Survivorship

December 8, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Regular cancer screening and improvements in treatments for most cancers mean that we have many more cancer survivors in our communities.   It was not so long ago that most cancers were diagnosed at the late stage, where they did not respond well to treatment.

Current models of care for cancer survivors are not survivor-centred, coordinated or accessible.   At times existing models do not minimise the burden of disease and treatment related side effects in the post-treatment phase. Cancer survivorship Care focuses on optimising survival times and quality of life and integrated care across all health sectors with an emphasis on the primary care setting.
