Regional Clinical Advisory Councils | Applications opening soon
Murray PHN will be establishing four Regional Clinical Advisory Councils, and will soon be seeking applications from those with a range of clinical backgrounds and expertise.  The role of the Councils is to provide strategic leadership and clinical expertise to enable improvement in clinical models and service delivery, tailored to the specific needs of local communities.  Further information about the application and selection process will be provided in an upcoming edition of eNews.

Improving Aboriginal health | Forum  
On Tuesday 2 August, Murray PHN came together with local Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations from across the Murray PHN catchment area. During the forum, we  identified ways to collaborate and support primary health services, and the health service system to be more responsive, and accessible to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Mental Health Systems Coordinator/s | Location negotiable
These positions will support the improved health outcomes of people within the Murray PHN region through planning, development and commissioning of tailored, integrated models of care for mental health. Applications close midnight tonight, Thursday 4 August.

Victorian PHN Alliance | Position vacant

Project Manager, Statewide Optimal Care Pathways Implementation
This position will undertake the state-wide coordination and oversight of the implementation of Optimal Care Pathways within primary care by improving linkages between primary and acute care. Applications close 5pm Monday 8 August.

Pharmacy |  Discussion paper

An independent review has been conducted of the Pharmacy Remuneration and Regulation (the Review). A final report will be provided to the Minister for Health by March 2017.  Public submissions to the Review in response to the discussion paper are now invited.

Telehealth investment and EOI

On Friday 29 July  Martin Foley, Acting Minister for Health  announced a $5m investment in telehealth to improve access to health care.  Priority areas for funding are health services that have a state-wide service responsibility and specialist clinic review appointments that can be provided via telehealth.  This includes specialist clinics treating chronic disease, vulnerable populations, and oncology, obstetric, endocrinology, orthopaedics, rheumatology and cardiology. Expressions of interest close Friday 12 August.

NDIS information session | Kerang

Carers who are caring for someone that might qualify for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) are encouraged to attend an information session on Wednesday 31 August in Kerang.

Bendigo Health | eHealth blog  post

The new Bendigo Hospital, opening in  January 2017 will be transitioning to  Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and  Digital Medical Records (DMR), which will  result in a clinician who is involved in a person's care, being able to use an electronic device and discuss results, medications, future treatment and/or rehabilitation with the patient.

On Monday 8 August a Dying to Know Expo is being held in Bendigo which will feature: Palliative Care Services, Volunteer Services,
Carer Support, Alzheimers Australia, Pastoral Care, Advanced Care  Planning, Centrelink and local funeral directors.

Victorian suicide prevention framework 2016-2025

Murray PHN welcomes the Victorian Government’s significant commitment to halving the rate of suicide in Victoria over the next ten years’.  The announcement,  which was made on Thursday 28 July,  of a specific suicide prevention trial, to be based in Mildura as one of six selected trial sites across the state, and funding for Albury Wodonga Health, to implement an assertive outreach support service in Wangaratta, are very positive developments.

Regional Health Infrastructure Fund

The Victorian Government has established a $200m Regional Health Infrastructure Fund as part of its commitment to provide better health for people in rural and regional Victoria. Eligible services that can apply include a broad list of health services, ACCHO’s, multi-purpose services and hospitals.

Dying to Know Day is on Monday 8 August. It's a day to have conversations, build death literacy and help grow the capacity of individuals and community groups to take action towards end of life planning.

GV Health research fair | Event evaluation

Dr MD Rafiqul Islam has written an article on GV Health's first research fair which was held on Wednesday 20 July.  Approximately 150 highly qualified people from all areas of health including a substantial number of officials from the Department of Health and the Department of Rural Health participated in the event.

The University of Melbourne is teaming up with health providers to take a snapshot of chronic disease and access to health care in four towns in north east Victoria’s Goulburn Valley region.

Ambulance service | Nagambie

Parliamentary Secretary for Health Mary-Anne Thomas announced  Nagambie’s first ever permanent ambulance service on Wednesday 3 August, which will  start in October.

Baby born at Falls Creek Medical Centre

Near blizzard conditions and a quick labour led to a baby born at Falls Creek Medical Centre on Monday 25 July. It is believed to be the clinics first birth since it opened in 1972. Dr Anoop Pem and Dr Angela Stratton dealt with the unexpected situation admirably well.

On Thursday 11 August Murray PHN, Sunraysia Community Health Services and First Peoples Training Institute are hosting a Stand up and Be Counted community BBQ that will feature basket weaving, canoeing, women and girl dances, get active and people are encouraged to bring their fishing rods along.
