Stop Mental Illness Stigma Charter

Murray PHN position vacant

The Primary Care Coordinator based in Bendigo, is a fixed-term role that is required to provide relief for a period of maternity leave which commences in December 2016 until June 2017.  The purpose of this position is to support Primary Health Services, particularly General Practice, to improve front line health service delivery.  Applications close 6 November 2016.

Commonwealth Home Support Program  Funding

Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, Ken Wyatt announced on Monday 17 October growth funding of up to $115 million over two years from 2016-17 is available under the Commonwealth Home Support Program Growth Funding Round.  Existing and prospective aged care providers of Commonwealth Home Support Program services are invited to apply for funding to support older people to live independently within their communities. RACP Indigenous Health Scholarship Program

The RACGP is offering 2017 scholarships to those who identify as being of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Maori or Pacific Islander heritage.  The scholarships provide a funded pathway through either Basic, Advanced, Faculty or Chapter training in Australia and New Zealand.  Applications close Wednesday 30 November.  Click here from more details

Social and emotional wellbeing

VHA Annual Award winners

Congratulations to Echuca Regional Health who were awarded Innovation in Capital Works and Projects Award  and to Rochester and Elmore District Health Service for Innovation in Clinical Governance Award at the Victorian Healthcare Association (VHA) Awards on 6 October.  Click here for more details

 

Border pride fair

The first Border Pride Fair Day is taking place on Saturday 12 November 2016 from 10am to 4pm at Noreuil Park, Albury. The day seeks to address social isolation, mental health, sexual health and improve local service awareness for Albury Wodonga LGBTIQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer/questioning) communities and HIV positive people, and will include a HIV and STI screening service.

Breast screening Corryong

Woman aged between 50-74 who haven't had a breast screen in the last two years, can visit 'Marjorie' the mobile bus in Corryong  outside the Towong Shire Council Office at 76 Hansen Street from 21-28 October.

White Ribbon Ball Albury

AlburyCity, Wodonga Council and Victoria and NSW Police are hosting a  White Ribbon Ball on Saturday 12 November to raise funds to help women and children affected by violence and help groups, and programs.

RVTS applications are open for 2017, for GPs working in a rural or remote GP practice or an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service, looking to train towards Fellowship of ACRRM or RACGP.  Applications close 26 October.  Click here for more details

Research surveys

  • Antibiotic subscribers

The University of Sydney is  currently conducting a national survey to understand GP attitudes towards antibiotic use, including: prescribing, antibiotic resistance and sources of information. Click here for more details

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to take part in mammographic screening

The University of Melbourne is currently undertaking a study on behalf of Cancer Australia to identify critical success factors for increasing mammographic screening participation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women across Australia. Click here for more details

Aboriginal Population Health Promotion | Shepparton

Trudie Newman, Greater Shepparton City Councils' Aboriginal Population Health Promotion Active Living, is a proud Barkindji women.  Trudie's role is to provide assistance in recommendations ensuring that health and wellbeing initiatives are culturally appropriate and in line with current Government policy directions. The position will support the development of strategies that enable service providers to work more confidently and effectively with Aboriginal clients.

LGBTI roadshow | Mildura and Swan Hill

Victoria's first Gender and Sexuality Commissioner, Ro Allen, is undertaking an LGBTI Equality Roadshow in Swan Hill 1-3 November and Mildura 6-8 November. The aim of the roadshow is to reduce discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people, and promote their inclusion in everyday rural and regional life.  Click here for more details

Are there any situations where standing consent does not apply?

When an individual registers for a My Health Record they give standing consent for registered healthcare provider organisations to upload health information to their My Health Record.  It is however important to note four exceptions.
