Family violence funding

A $572 million state-wide funding boost over two years was announced on Wednesday 13 April  in the 2016/17 Victorian Budget. It responds to the Royal Commission recommendations.

Medical cannabis legalised

Victorian patients and their families will be able to legally access medicinal cannabis in exceptional circumstances with the Access to Medicinal Cannabis Bill 2015 passing the Parliament on Tuesday 12 April.

National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) | Changes

From 1 July, the Government is introducing changes to the NDSS, an Australian Government-funded scheme that provides subsidised products for people with diabetes.

Victoria’s  mental health plan

In November 2015 the Government launched Victoria’s 10-year mental health plan to drive better mental health outcomes.  An expert taskforce has now been appointed to guide the implementation of the plan.

New four-strain flu vaccine

A new four-strain flu vaccine, protecting against the 'Brisbane virus', is being made available for at-risk Australians for free from this month by the Turnbull Government.

2016 Survey of Health Care

Almost 125,000 Australians will soon receive an invitation to join a health care study that will show how well patients’ health care is being coordinated in local areas across Australia. The information will be made available to PHN's.

Suicide prevention |  Shepparton

A Suicide Prevention Worker has commenced at headspace Shepparton. The suicide prevention role aims to support young people 12-25 years old managed in the primary health care and are at risk of suicide.

New service  | Nexus Primary Health

Nexus Primary Health are now providing multi-disciplinary Autism Diagnostic Assessments for children as part of the Helping Children with Autism program.  Each assessment is conducted by a Psychologist, Speech Pathologist or Occupational Therapist.

Toddler talk study

Mildura has been selected to trial the $1.2 million State Government research program Every Toddler Talking that investigates ways to help Victorian toddlers develop and boost their communication and language skills.  Sunraysia Community Health will soon work with a number of child care centres located in the region to trial findings of the study.

Murray PHN Aboriginal Health Outreach Worker Louise Tarrant recently visited Swan Hill District Health and felt that their service entry showed their commitment to providing the best service and outcomes for all people through being welcoming and inclusive of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
