Murray PHN Board and community meeting | Yea

On Tuesday 19 April the Murray PHN Board had their meeting in Yea. While there they met with community members to discuss the outcomes of earlier engagement for the area.

The purpose of the Health Systems Coordinator is to support system-wide perspectives and responses to improve health service coordination, efficiency and effectiveness within the Goulburn Valley region of Murray PHN.

2016 Victorian  budget |  Health

On Wednesday 27 April, the 2016 Victorian budget was released with a $2.9b investment dedicated to health that includes:

  • $143m  availability of ambulance services and upgrades to stations and vehicles.
  • $28.5m for a trial of medicinal cannabis.
  • $356m for mental health services, including $27m for suicide prevention programs.
  • $1.6b for hospitals: $335m to cut elective surgery waiting lists, health spending includes $30m for real-time prescription monitoring.

On Wednesday 20 April,  Minister for Health Sussan Ley launched Check Your Cancer Risk, an interactive online tool to help people understand how lifestyle factors can contribute to their risk of cancer.

IV Iron administration video

Oral iron therapy may be of limited benefit to some, including those with impaired intestinal iron absorption or who experience GI side effects that reduce adherence. Oral iron therapy may also be inappropriate in cases of severe IDA, in which rapid iron repletion is required.  Intravenous iron administration may be an alternative in these patients.

Family violence after natural disaster workshops

Dental reforms announced

On Saturday 23 April, Minister for Health Sussan Ley announced the creation of a standalone national Child and Adult Public Dental Scheme (caPDS), which will provide over 10 million Australians with access to public dental.

It's World Immunisation Week and  Immunity for Community features real stories of everyday  Victorians whose personal experiences reinforce the potentially lifesaving benefits of immunisation. VSCN  scholarships

The Victorian Stroke Clinical Network (VSCN) has announced up to 30 scholarships to support nurses and allied health professionals working in the area of stroke care (acute/sub-acute/community) to attend a conference.

The RACGP Standing Strong Together Award is open to any Fellow or member of RACGP and any Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person who has worked to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Nominations close Friday 13 May.

The annual critical review of The Australian STI Management Guidelines: For Use in Primary Care  is complete.  The guidelines are an online resource designed to provide Primary Care Practitioners with concise information to support the prevention, testing, diagnosis, management and treatment for STI's.

Chronic care collaborative | West Hume

West Hume chronic care collaborative provides offers a supportive and nurturing  environment for staff working in health and social services by  sharing experience, training and work place  implementation in the self management arena. The next meeting will be held in Shepparton, Seymour, or videoconference on Wednesday 11 May.

Greater Shepparton | Immunisation schedule

Greater Shepparton City Council  is encouraging people to protect their families from diseases by ensuring children are vaccinated. Vaccinations are free for children up to 19 years of age.  Council recently expanded the Multilingual Information Line Service, which provides pre-recorded immunisation information, or connection to an interpreter.

The Accessibility Reference Group is seeking members.
