APNA Transition to Practice

APNA’s Transition to Practice program aims to contribute to workforce development and sustainability by supporting nurses new to primary health care to enhance the experience of the individual nurse and assist workforce retention in this growing area of nursing. Cert IV Mental Peer Work

This nationally recognised course has been developed by VICSERV and is specifically designed for those who have lived experience as either a consumer or carer, and who work  in mental health services in roles that support, mentor or advocate for consumers or carers.  Expressions of Interest (EOI) will be accepted from people with a lived experience of severe and  persistent mental illness who would like to complete the course whilst volunteering within the  mental health system.  EOI applications close 5pm 12 February 2016.

Peter Mac |  General Practice Clinical Placement in Survivorship Program

Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is offering Victorian-based general practitioners and general practice nurses an opportunity to participate in a ten hour clinical placement to support patients from cancer diagnosis through to cancer survivorship.

Patient waiting times report

The Victorian Government released a report on 29 January 2016 that outlines specialist clinics quarterly activity and wait times. The report reveals that some Victorians are waiting more than four-and-a-half years to see a specialist doctor in a public hospital.

A key task that PHNs are required to undertake is population health planning and health needs assessments within their regional boundaries. This is to inform and prioritise the distribution of health funding.

Shepparton's homeless youth

Shepparton’s Education First Youth Foyer has moved a step closer with the appointment of Berry Street Victoria and Rural Housing Network Limited as service providers. They will work in partnership with GOTAFE to deliver this new service.  The foyer will provide safe accommodation for up to 40 young people aged 16-24 at a time and engage students in education, employment and training.  Youth foyers have already proven successful in several sites across the State.  The foyer is expected to be ready for operation later this year, with community information sessions also being planned.

The Yea & District Memorial Hospital Scholarship Program is aimed at helping local students pursue a career in health and wellbeing.The scholarship has a value of up to $10,000 per year. Applications close Sunday 7 February 2016.

Hume Regional Integrated Cancer Service  are inviting people who are over 18 years old and have completed a cancer treatment at Goulburn Valley Health or the Border/North East region within the last five years to participate in a project that aims to provide tailored support for cancer survivors.
