Murray PHN  Introductory session | Shepparton
On Tuesday 20  October,  prior to the monthly board meeting in Shepparton,  Murray PHN board  members and staff hosted an introductory  discussion about Murray PHN in the Goulburn Valley.  

Approximately 67  people attended, representing 33 agencies. Murray PHN CEO Matt Jones presented, then facilitated  a question and answer session  encouraging  informal  conversations about the local health priorities and issues.

Partners in Recovery | Stigma action grants

Stigma Action Funding Grants are being made available to deliver activities to reduce stigma of severe and persistent mental illness across the Loddon Mallee Murray and Hume PIR regions.

PHNs role in aged care

In response to comments made by Minister for Health and Aged Care Sussan Ley,  AHHA Chief Executive Alison Verhoeven has said "we are in full support of PHNs playing a role in the aged care sector, and in particular in determining service need and commissioning those services".

Indigenous HIV resource

Us Mob and HIV   has been created by Australian Federation of AIDS  Organisations (AFAO) with the  aim to increase awareness of HIV, treatments, care and support among a broad audience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The Rural Workforce Agency Victoria (RWAV) holds the Victorian Rural Health Awards every year as a way to recognise the hard work and dedication from our rural healthcare professionals.  All health professionals who work in rural and regional Victoria are eligible and there are a number of categories to choose from.  Nominations close next Friday 20 November 2015.

New flu protections

Minister for Health Sussan Ley said the Government would upgrade the Government’s National Immunisation Program to include a new influenza vaccine for 2016 that will cover four flu strains â€" up from three in 2015.

10,000 steps challenge
Murray PHN North West office participated in this year’s Mildura’s 10,000 STEPS workplace challenge and took  positive steps towards workplace health. The team walked a total of 2,675,953 steps  in five weeks.  

National skin cancer action week | 15 - 21 November

The  Cancer Council Australia and the Australasian College of Dermatologists are once again promoting National Skin Cancer Action Week. This years theme is  UV it all adds up.

The Department of Health and Human Services has created the  Greater Say for Victorians: Improving End of Life Care  website and is seeking the input of health professionals, carers, families and members of the community to develop a new state-wide end of life care framework.

Cervical screening  changes

Around 700 women in Australia were diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2011. The changes to the screening program are expected to prevent an additional 140 cases of cervical cancer each year.

Bowel cancer | Prevention resources

Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in Australia. FOBT testing is a proven highly-accurate way to detect potential or early bowel cancer.  Cancer Council Victoria has developed new resources including a waiting room poster,  brochure and guide.

New pilot tele-dentistry service

A new pilot tele-dentistry service will be introduced at Shepparton GV Health’s Community Dental Service later this year.  The project is designed to help patients in rural and remote areas.  The project will involve a clinical alliance between local dentists and specialist staff from the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne and will allow for immediate advice.

Mildura GP Dr Mehdi Sanati pour has been named an Individual Distinction finalist in the HESTA  national primary health care award for his work providing health services to disadvantaged members of his community â€" running a weekly refugee  health clinic providing newly arrived refugees free access to health services.
