Tackling childhood mental illness

One in seven Australian children and young people are estimated to have a mental health problem.  Under the current model, children under 12 aren't getting access to the services they need.

Hand clinic |  Fitzroy

An advanced hand therapy clinic is now running at St Vincent's Hospital, Fitzroy. GPs can refer directly to this clinic for conditions that include mallet finger, PIP/DIP dislocations, IP flexion contractures, forearm and hand tendinopathy, thumb CMC osteoarthritis, generalised hand osteoarthritis, stable ligamentous injuries MCP/PIP/DIPs, and closed distal phalangeal fractures. Ageing population

With six reviews of the health system currently underway, Health Minister Sussan Ley is investigating ways to create a “sustainable† Medicare and a stronger health system. One of the main concerns is that Australia's ageing population is putting too much strain on the health system.

Diabetes program | Cobram

Cobram residents with higher risks of diabetes are eligible to participate in the Cobram’s Community Health Centre Life program.  People can attend group sessions, which will begin in early 2016, telephone health coaching, or out of hours sessions.

Movement disorder  project

More than 200 people with Parkinson’s Disease or another movement disorder have received services from the Movement Disorder Nurse which was part of a unique partnership agreement co-funded between GV Health, Parkinson’s Victoria and the Shepparton Parkinson’s Support Group, which drove the two year trial project.

Abortion study | Albury

The University of Technology Sydney  is recruiting GPs, gynaecologists, and private termination providers  for a study funded by Family Planning NSW on access to  abortion. They are interested gaining a rural/remote voice and are currently focusing on recruiting in  and around Albury.

Christmas vaccine deliveries

NSW vaccine centre has announced  Christmas and new year delivery schedule information on their online system.  Rural and remote areas should submit vaccine orders by 12pm 18 December to arrive on 22 December. Routine deliveries will recommence from 4 January.

Swan Hill pharmacist wins

Fiona Robertson, from Marraboor Pharmacy  Swan Hill was presented with the Victorian Pharmacist Medal on 20 November. Fiona  has been actively involved in the mental health care of patients.

New youth service |  Swan Hill

The Youth Affairs Council of Victoria (YACVic) will fund a new regional office in Swan Hill. The hub will be expected to be in place by around February and will complement the new Swan Hill headspace that's opening soon.

New INR machine | Swan Hill

The acute ward at Swan Hill District Health has received an International Normalised Ratio Machine (INR), meaning patients don't have to wait for blood tests to be returned and  can  be discharged earlier.
