Movember | PIR efforts

Alistair Bonsey, Loddon Mallee Murray Partners in Recovery  Manager  finished growing a moustache for Movember. Alistair raised more than three times his target for  men’s mental health which will go towards  helping the 1 million Australian men living with depression or anxiety.

A new smartphone app featuring the most extensive national directory of health and community services was launched by Lifeline on 18 November, linking Australians with more than 85,000 services.

Weenthunga Health Network is a not for profit First Australian led organisation collaboratively contributing to strategies promoting equity so as to help improve the health and wellbeing of First Australians.  Weenthunga are seeking new memberships to help meet their aims.

2015 youth survey

Mission Australia’s 2015 youth survey has revealed that alcohol and drugs were found to be an increasing concern,  coping with stress are top issues of concern and just over one in ten respondents indicated that they saw family responsibilities and physical or mental health as barriers to achieving their goals.

Optimal cancer care pathways

The Cancer Council Victoria is seeking comment on their draft quick reference guides for GPs Optimal cancer care for women with endometrial cancer, and optimal care pathway for people with acute myeloid leukaemia.  The public consultation will be open until 28 January 2016.

2014-15 emergency statistics

In 2014/15 there were almost 7.4 million presentations to public hospital emergency departments, with 74% of patients receiving treatment within an appropriate time in the urgency (triage) category.

New specialist outpatient clinic referral form |  Bendigo Health

MBS billing for some outpatient services is in line with the Department of Human Services recommendations, and assists in addressing the costs associated with the growing demand for health services.

Healthy communities and continuing care services | Bendigo Health

A number of new services within the Healthy Communities and Continuing Care Division are now operating as MBS billing outpatient services by specialist medical consultations. Referrals need to be addressed to the nominated specialist and the specific clinic.

headspace vacancies | Swan Hill

The Administration Support Officer will provide reception and administrative support to all members of the headspace team.
The Mental Health Clinician will provide early intervention support to young people.
The Senior Clinician is a key leadership position in the headspace mental health team.
Applications for all three positions close midnight Sunday 13 December.

Mental health reforms

The Government released its response to the National Mental Health Commissions's review of mental health programme and services on 26 November.  Primary health networks  will be put in charge of commissioning the mental health services they consider necessary and appropriate to the needs of their local communities, rather than them being contracted at a fragmented national level in Canberra.

HPV Vaccination Program

The Immunisation Section would like to clarify that the National HPV Vaccination Program Register is unchanged and continues to actively accept reports of doses of HPV vaccine administered as always, despite the HPV Program website being decommissioned on 31 December 2015.

Women's safety toolkit

The National Sexual Assault, Domestic Family Violence Counselling Service 1800RESPECT has released an  online toolkit for frontline workers.  The toolkit is designed to  help recognise and respond to the signs of sexual assault, domestic and family violence.

Loddon Mallee Murray Partners in Recovery and Murray PHN support St Luke's program River 2 Recovery which aims for participants to gain  confidence  and self  esteem, develop organisation and management skills and improve mental and physical health.

Australian atlas of healthcare variation

The Honourable Sussan Ley, Australian Minister for Health, has launched the first national healthcare ‘atlas’, illuminating variation in health care provision across Australia.  The Australian atlas of healthcare variation presents a clear picture of substantial variation in healthcare use across Australia, across areas such as antibiotic prescribing, surgical, mental health and diagnostic services.

Stop  mental health stigma

Shanne Stannard, a Goulburn Valley mother, has spoken out about her experience with mental health in a bid to foster discussion about the issue.  Ms Stannard has also established Positive Life Skills in Shepparton to provide programs tailored for infants to young adults who suffer from mental illness.
