Statewide Paediatric HealthPathways project

Statewide Paediatric HealthPathways project

The Victorian PHN Alliance (a collective platform for Victoria's six PHNs) has been working with the Victorian Paediatric Clinical Network and Safer Care Victoria's Paediatric Clinical Network, to translate existing Clinical Practice Guidelines  into statewide paediatric HealthPathways.

A decade of general practice data (The Bettering the Evaluation and Care of Health 2004-05 - 2013-14) revealed a reduction in the number of children doctors were seeing, while a study of hospital emergency departments during a similar period (Victorian emergency  minimum dataset 2002-13) showed that over 70% of children presenting to emergency, were for conditions that could have been appropriately managed by doctors.

To work towards our goal of reducing potentially avoidable hospital admissions, in addition to supporting GPs in their confidence to treat children for low emergency conditions, we were excited to assist in helping to create a statewide system that supports both GPs and their patients no matter where they live in Victoria.

The first 13 pathways were completed in January 2018 and are available to access for free via Murray HealthPathways. Note that you have be registered and logged in to view the following clinical pathways:

Another 15 pathways are currently under development and are set for release in October 2018.
